Okay, so 'friends' had clearly been the wrong thing to say, from her tone. He just wasn't sure if he was ready to be anything more than friends with someone yet. He'd thought Allison was the love of his life, and that didn't go away overnight. 'Friends who sometimes make out' wasn't really the kind of thing girls usually wanted to hear, though, so he kept that thought to himself for now, going with the subject change gladly.
